Instructors

Gregory Paquette - Foil, Epee, Sabre
Coach Greg has been fencing since 1977. He was coached and apprenticed to Dr. Wladimiro Calarese (4 time olympic medal winner and 3 time world champion from Italy). In addition to competing, Greg made it to the semi-finals before being elimiated by injury in the NCAA. In 1990, Greg began to teach fencing at Wright State University (in Dayton). In addition to teaching Sabre to Ray Bautista and the American Fencing Academy of Dayton, Greg now teaches sabre, foil and epee at Wright State University, University of Dayton, and for AFAD. Greg is married and has 3 children (all of who fence).

Lyle Wiemer - Foil, Epee, Sabre
Lyle is the current president of the American Fencing Academy of Dayton, and has served as a fencing instructor since AFAD's first classes were offered. He began fencing in 2001, and most of his instruction came directly from Ray Bautista. His style is an eclectic mix of the Hungarian and French fencing forms. He competes in all three weapons at the DIV-1 level. In the 2005-06 season, he became the only person to be 1st in Great Lakes Sectional points for all three weapons.

Jeff Hudson, Ph.D. - Foil, Epee, Sabre
Competes in all three weapons - AFAD Instructor (Foil, Epee, Sabre) - Countryside YMCA Fencing Program, Manager and Instructor - Glendale Center for the Martial Arts Fencing, Founder and Instructor - Kent State University Fencing Club, Former Coach and Manager 1986-1996. Not currently accepting new students.

Cheryl Paquette - Sabre
Coach Cheryl began fencing in 1988 under Dr. Wladimiro Calarese and Greg Paquette. She has competed regionally doing well. Cheryl is the fencing coach at Northmont High School (outside Dayton) and teaches for AFAD. Cheryl prefers to fence sabre, but fences foil and is 5'2" and attemping epee.

Patrick DeSimio - Foil
Has taught group and private lessons for 3 years, Level 1 Foil Coach, USFA Coaches' College, 2005.
